Judge Masipa sentences Oscar Pistorius to 5 years in prison.
Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in jail for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The double-amputee sprinter, 27, admitted killing the model and TV presenter at his home in Pretoria in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year. He said it was a tragic accident when he mistook Reeva for an intruder and opened fire on his bathroom door.
But Pistorius was arrested and charged with murder.
Following a two-month trial, he was acquitted but found guilty of culpable homicide.
Today, Judge Thokozile Masipa sentenced him to five years in jail.
He was also given a three-year suspended jail sentence for a separate firearms charge.
