Borussia Dortmund winger
Jakub Blaszczykowski has
confirmed that he ruptured
cruciate ligaments in his left
knee against Augsburg.
The Poland captain went down after a heavy
challenge in the second minute and was replaced by
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with just six minutes
gone.
After a scan on Sunday, Blaszczykowski took to his
Facebook account to confirm that the news was as
bad as expected and will now miss the remainder of
the season.
With a picture of his leg being supported by a doctor,
the Pole wrote: "Unfortunately, the assumption has
been confirmed: it is a cruciate ligament injury. On
Thursday I will have surgery and then the struggle for
my comeback begins!"
Die Schwarzgelben can ill-afford to lose the Pole after
their indifferent form continued against Augsburg, with
the visitors twice coming from behind to secure a 2-2
draw at the Signal Iduna Park.
BVB boss Jurgen Klopp was left to bemoan his side's
misfortune after the game, commenting on
Blaszczykowski's injury by lamenting that Borussia
"have only had bad news" so far this season.
The Borussians have lost further ground on leaders
Bayern Munich, sitting third in the Bundesliga with 33
points from 18 games, 14 behind the leaders.
