Great Motherly love.

AWKA—Former Presidential Adviser to the President
on National Assembly Matters, Senator Joy Emodi,
has feted about 150 widows and motherless babies
in Anambra State, as part of her annual Christmas
celebration with the less privileged.
The event, which is implemented yearly by Joy
Emodi Foundation, JEF, saw the beneficiaries
receive food items, including bags of rice, noodles,
biscuits, toiletries, wrappers and cash to enable the
women start small scale businesses.
The beneficiaries were the Nigeria Red Cross
Motherless Babies Home and the Onitsha South
Local Government Motherless Babies Home, both in
the heart of Onitsha, as well as widows that were
drawn from all the local government areas that
make up Anambra North senatorial zone.
Emodi said she established the Foundation many
years ago to assist those who do not have people to
help them at this period of Christmas and promised
to continue with the programme.
She urged wealthy Nigerians to come to the aid of
the less privileged in the society, noting that
government alone cannot cater for their needs all
the time.
She said: “There are many people in Anambra State
who are richer than the government and such
people should always remember those who are in
need.
“These widows have nobody to take care of their
needs, especially at periods like Christmas and the
only way they can be made happy is through our
collective efforts by providing them with clothes,
food and means of sustaining themselves.”
One of the widows, Mrs. Gloria Offiah, commended
Emodi for coming to their aide every Christmas,
noting that since she began the programme many
years ago, they always looked forward to
celebrating the Christmas with her.
She also stated that the money given to her by the
senator had enabled her to meet her daily financial
needs through the small business she was able to
establish with the money she received from her two
years ago.
