Ekiti NMA seeks isolation centre for Ebola patients

Nigerian Medical Association, Ekiti chapter, has called on Governor Kayode Fayemi to establish a centralized isolated camp for Ebola Virus cases. The association also appealed to the government to provide other standard personal protective equipment for its members to perform effectively in preventing and controlling the spread of the disease. At a press conference on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, the state’s chapter chairman, Dr. John Akinbote, said in spite on the nationwide strike, the body had demonstrated its seriousness in curbing the scourge by setting up ‘Ekiti Ebola Control Committee’ to partner with the government for robust prevention mechanism. The NMA boss stated that the Committee, which would be coordinated by a Consultant and Public Health Physician, Dr. Victor Aduayi, comprised of well-skilled medical professionals from the state-based health institutions. “This is not the time to panic , but time to seek proper information. I also plead with our people to keep personal hygiene. It may be by regular hand washing because the virus can be contacted through body contact and with other body fluids,” he said. Describing the Ebola malaise as a serious challenge, Akinbote said the committee will soon begin a public sensitization programme. He urged Government to also complement their efforts by increasing their hazard allowance and introducing a well packaged health insurance policy for health workers at this critical time.
