Akwa United, Kaduna United and Kano Pillars were kicked out of the Federation Cup in the round of 64 games played on Thursday across the country. The Promise Keepers went down to FC Abuja 2-1 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. Troubled Kaduna United got bundled out of the competition by non league sides Leopard FC of Cross Rivers who walked them over in a tie slated for Chief Emmanuel Akume Atongo Stadium in Katsina Ala. Kaduna United's general manager Garuba Lawal confirmed that he got the information that the Crocodiles had been walked over for lateness to the venue of the match but stressed that he was yet to get full details of what transpired.
At the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, Kano Pillars lost to Gateway United. Pillars got stunned 2-1 despite taking the lead in the 35th minute. Goals fromFrancis Olanrewaju and Opeyemi Oluwafemi in the 44th and 84th minutes turned the game in favour of Gateway United. Sunshine Stars also fell to the superior firepower of Bendel Insurance in a Federation Cup tie played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna. The game ended 0-1 in favour of the former winners of the competition.
Meanwhile, 3SC of Ibadan, Enugu Rangers and Lobi Stars were among the big teams remaining in the competition after they strolled to the next round of the Federation Cup after comfortable victories over their opponents on Thursday. The Oluyole Warriors won 2-0 against Dalhatu FC at the Fifa Goal Project pitch in Abuja with goals from Taofeek Adepoju and Femi Ojo in the 23rd and 51st minutes. Rangers also qualified for the next round after a 2-0 triumph over Ikpeazu Redoubtable courtesy of Osagona Ighodalor's brace in the fifth and 50th minutes at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia.
