Rodriguez drills his volley past Muslera
The AS Monaco star broke the deadlock with a
stunning volley – one of the goals of the
championship – after 28 minutes, his shot
flying high past Fernando Muslera, Rodriguez
adding a second with a close-range effort after
half-time to take his tally to five in the
tournament.

His double takes him ahead of Thomas Muller,
Lionel Messi and Neymar, who while
converting Brazil’s crucial fifth spot-kick in
their dramatic last 16 penalty shoot-out win
over Chile, failed to convert any of the chances
that came his way during 90 minutes and
extra-time.
Afterwards, a delighted Rodriguez explained
what the win meant to him and his country.
“It’s a historic success,” said the 22 year-old.
“Now comes the most difficult moment for us
so far, we hope to get past the last eight
though.
“The entire team did well, my team-mates
were all crucial. We created many chances due
to the speed and pace of the entire team.”
